Can you gain weight from taking black cohosh for menopause symptoms?

Asked 2 years ago

My sister has started menopause and is extremely insecure because of it. She is especially shy of her hot flashes, which she seems to get at any random time without warning. A friend has turned her on to a herb called black cohosh which supposedly treats various menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes. My sister's one concern is that she doesn't want to gain any more weight than she already has through her menopause. Can anyone advise if taking black cohosh causes weight gain? Thank you!

Currently, there is no scientific evidence that taking black cohosh supplements can lead to weight gain. However, menopause can cause women to pick up weight around their abdomen, so the treatments you use shouldn't necessarily take the blame. Eating less sugary foods and becoming more active can help with this problem.
