What causes the loss of collagen?

Asked 2 years ago

I recently found out that I have a collagen deficiency... I'm really unsure how this happened because I have a really balanced diet. What exactly causes the loss of collagen?

There are a few factors responsible for collagen loss. These include age, genetics, stress, smoking and sun or UV exposure. Your diet can also play a role in the loss of collagen, especially if it's low in vitamin C which boosts collagen production or is high in substances that cause inflammation such as sugar, processed food, simple carbohydrates and french fries or other fried foods.
