Is a high protein diet good for cancer patients?
Asked 2 years ago
Hi all. A friend of mine is currently undergoing chemo, and the diet his doctor recommended seems to contain quite a large amount of lean protein. Is this because a high protein diet is good for cancer patients or is it just a coincidence?

Cancer patients are advised to eat a higher amount of protein than usual to help build and maintain muscle. Due to cancer treatment, a lot of patients may start losing muscle, and increasing their protein intake is vital to help in rebuilding muscle as well as in cell growth and repair. Protein is also needed to help fight infections and improve blood clotting, all of which are beneficial for those undergoing chemo.
