What does alfuzosin do for the prostate?

Asked 2 years ago

I was told that I should get alfuzosin for my BPH. Can anyone tell me what this treatment does for an enlarged prostate and what the possible side effects are?

Alfuzosin works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate. This helps increase the flow of urine while relieving some of the symptoms of BPH . However, this medicine does not shrink the prostate so it may continue to enlarge. Some of the side effects include low blood pressure, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, heartburn, constipation, headaches and a decrease in sexual ability.

Alfuzosin is an alpha-blocker. It improves the flow of urine in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder. Some of the side effects include dizziness and lightheadedness, chest pain, loss of appetite, upper stomach pain, jaundice, headache, fatigue, dark urine, or clay-colored stools. Some men experience a painful erection that may last for 4 hours or longer, after taking this medication.
