Why does yellow nail syndrome cause respiratory damage?

Asked 2 years ago

Hi, I thought that I had toenail fungus, and I tried all sorts of treatments that never worked, and my nails have become thick, yellow, and infected. The other day I started experiencing shortness of breath, I looked it up, and it looks like I have yellow nail syndrome. Why would it cause shortness of breath?

Yellow nails commonly indicate a fungal infection but may also be a symptom of lung or thyroid disease. If associated with pulmonary problems, you could be having yellow nail syndrome where lymph fluid accumulates under the nails, resulting in swelling and nail discoloration. This happens because of problems in the lymphatic system which can prevent proper lymph drainage. Visit your doctor for a proper diagnosis and to help you get to the bottom of this.
